6 Day Orkney Stravaig

Rating
Vikings! Monsters! The Stone Age! Venture North with us as we traverse one of the finest routes in the world. For 6 days we take on the very best of what Scotland has to offer spending our first night in the amazing Sleeperzzz vintage converted train carriages before winding our way up the East Coast, jumping a ferry (included in your ticket price) across to the historic and majestic Orkney Islands, the seat of Viking power in the North, where Jarls and Kings vied for power over the hugely valuable sea routes. We spend two nights in the heart of Orkney, striking out to explore everything the magical island has to offer, from ancient Brochs to the Tomb of the Eagles (Optional - Entry not included) the 5000 year old cliffedge tomb. We head back to the mainland and skirt along the North Coast, exploring some of the most remote landscapes in the world, staying in the picturesque Durness, peering out over the North Atlantic, nothing but ocean between you and the Arctic. From there we dive into the Highlands, winding our way through the Glens, the iconic symbol of Scotland's wilderness, getting amongst the mountains and valleys to explore it first hand. We spend our final night in Inverness, enjoying the local culture and soaking in the atmosphere. We start our final day with some Nessie hunting from the shores of the magnificent Loch Ness and maybe a swim in the cold waters to clear your head! Following the Great Glen, a fault-line that splits the Highlands in two, we journey south towards the truly astonishing Glen Coe with its sad, bloody history. Through the most beautiful Rannoch Moor we head down to Braveheart country before arriving back in Auld Reekie.
