DAY 1 Arrive into Cairo. Transfer to hotel

Upon arrival our staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel close to the Pyramids for the start of your trip. They will help you settle in, introduce you to the local area, and explain tomorrow’s arrangements.

DAY 2 Cairo. Museum & Pyramids tour

Our tour of Egypt begins with a trip to the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo. Home to the fantastic Tutankhamun exhibit the museum hosts many other ancient Egyptian artefacts. Following on from the museum we then make the short trip to Giza to visit the Sphinx and the great pyramids of Egypt. This evening we transfer to the station for the overnight train to Aswan (1st class carriage, reclining seats - sleeper upgrade available)

DAY 3 Arrive in Aswan. Tour of Philae Temple

This morning we arrive in Aswan and transfer to the hotel. We then start our tour of Aswan with a trip to the island temple complex of Philae visiting the impressive Aswan High Dam en-route. The Philae temple remains one of Egypt’s most romantic and picturesque sites having been completely relocated following work on the Dam. The rest of the day is free to explore the colourful souks and markets found in the town or watch the sunset over the River Nile.

DAY 4 Aswan. Abu Simbel option. Start felucca cruise

This morning we have the option of taking an early start for the drive to the UNESCO world heritage site at Abu Simbel. These amazing temples built by Ramses II are one of Egypt's main highlights and attractions. Those not visiting Abu Simbel can explore Aswan's markets this morning, or visit the Nubian Museum which has a fascinating collection covering the development of the Nubian people in the region. In the afternoon we then board a traditional felucca boat and start our leisurely cruise along the Nile towards the temple at Kom Ombo. In the evening our facilities boat will join us with its welcome toilet and showers, and our Nubian crew will prepare a delicious evening meal.

DAY 5 Nile felucca cruise

Wake up today on board your traditional felucca and let yourself unwind as we make our way downriver. Whether you feel the urge to take a swim or just sunbathe on deck there is no better way to experience life on the River Nile.

DAY 6 Kom Ombo and Edfu Temple tours. Arrive in Luxor

After a leisurely breakfast on-board we bid farewell to our felucca this morning and visit the nearby temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu before continuing on north to Luxor. In the evening we have the chance to enjoy a walking tour of the beautiful Luxor Temple.

DAY 7 Luxor. East and West Bank tours

We cross over the river Nile early this morning to begin our tour of Luxor’s West Bank. Home to the Valley of the Kings, the dusty tombs in this ancient burial site are still revealing their secrets today and so it remains one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Our tour inclues several of these Pharaonic tombs, as well as the temples of Queen Hatchepsut and Medinat Habu, and the huge Colossi of Memnon. We return to the hotel for some free time before visiting the enormous temple complex at Karnak on the East bank of the Nile later in the afternoon. The evening is free to walk along the corniche, have a drink overlooking the Nile, or explore the town's markets. An option is available this morning for a spectacular hot air balloon flight over the west bank of the Nile.

DAY 8 Fly to Sharm-el-Sheikh and transfer to Dahab

We depart Luxor today and transfer you to the airport for an internal flight to Sharm-el-Sheikh (flights may connect via Cairo). On arrival in Sharm, we make the short transfer along the coast of the Sinai Peninsular to the laid back Red Sea town of Dahab. Upon arrival the rest of the day is free to explore the town or relax by the pool.

DAY 9 Dahab. Free time

The next three days are free to spend at leisure in and around Dahab. There are several optional tours which you can join including a trip to Mt Sinai. We can also arrange any scuba diving options for you, and quad bike, kite surfing and camel rides are also available. Dahab itself has a very relaxed feel to it and there are plenty of options for eating out with some great seafood restaurants.

DAY 12 Dahab to Taba. Cross into Jordan and on to Wadi Rum

This morning we transfer to the Red Sea town of Nuweiba from where we will cross through into Jordan by ferry (some dates we may travel to Taba and cross overland via Eilat in Israel). We start by visiting the ancient Aqaba Fort, and then it’s a short drive to the spectacular desert scenery of Wadi Rum with its towering cliffs, expanses of sand and strange rock formations. Here we enjoy a Bedouin lunch, and then start our jeep safari into the desert. This evening we sleep under the stars in a traditional Bedouin camp (in the winter months of November to February we use a permanent camp with good facilities inlcuding hot showers, while during the warm months of March to October we stay in a smaller more basic camp right inside the desert reserve. All beds and bedding are provided at both camps).

DAY 13 Shobak Crusader Castle, Little Petra

We bid farewell to our Bedouin hosts this morning and travel north to the ruined Crusader castle at Shobak. The first in a string of similar castles built across Jordan by the crusaders, Shobak is perched on the top of a rocky hill and is an atmospheric place to explore and get a feel for the eventful history of the time. In the afternoon we visit 'Little Petra', which was a suburb of the main site and forms a great introduction to our more extensive tours tomorrow. This evening you have the chance to enjoy the spectacular and atmospheric Petra by Candlelight tour.

DAY 14 Full day in Petra

We have a full day today to explore the world famous site of Petra. Carved into the rocks by the Nabatean people, and left undiscovered for centuries, Petra has always been an enduring attraction for explorers. We include a full tour of the area with free time to explore on your own in the afternoon. You could climb up to the High Place of Sacrifice, or perhaps up to the Monastery which is one of Petra's biggest and most impressive carved structures and also enjoys great views over the Jordan valley.

DAY 15 Drive the Kings Highway to the Dead Sea and Amman

After breakfast we depart Petra for the scenic drive north up the King’s Highway. This is a beautiful drive, passing through small villages, farmland and olive groves and winding up and down huge deep valleys (Wadi Mujib being the largest). En-route we pass the crusader castle at Kerak and stop to see the ancient Roman mosaics at Madaba and see the views and churches at the top of Mt. Nebo, from where Moses was shown the Promised Land. We then arrive at the Dead Sea where we are able to float and swim in its unique salty waters before we return to Amman for our last night in Jordan.

DAY 16 Amman. Departure transfer to the airport

Your time is free today until we transfer you to Amman airport for your departure flight. Alternatively you may wish to take one of a number of optional day trips. These include tours of the centre of Amman and the Roman ruins at Jerash, a trip to Ajloun Castle and Umm Qais, a tour of the 'Desert Castles', a visit to the Baptism Site at Bethany on the Jordan, or a tour into Israel to visit Bethlehem and Jerusalem. We can also arrange a transfer to Tel Aviv for you to connect this tour with our Fantastic Israel tour which starts today.
