Jordan to Israel Odyssey - 2016
GBP
Day 1 : Amman
Go see a man about a horse. Or Amman and its horses (though we doubt there'll be horses. It is a modern city after all.) But you can hang out in the capital's sophiticated cafes or see some very old stuff in museums before meeting your crew tonight.
Day 2 : Amman - Tiberias
Looking for Michael Jordan? This is Amman, Jordan. It was that sneaky ‘Jordan’ bit that did it huh? From here head out to Israel via the Sheikh Hussein border. Sounds like an exotic pop singer right? Say howdy to your new leader on the Israeli side and then mission out to Tiberias for a hearty feed and a good sleep.
Day 3 : Tiberias - Nazareth - Jerusalem
Ever heard your Mum mutter something about performing a ‘loaves and fishes miracle’ when you brought unexpected friends home for din? Well today we go to Tabgha, where the original miracle took place. Check out Capernaum before kicking on to Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciation (this is where Mary got knocked up, virgin-style) then jump back on the bus and head to Jerusalem.
Day 4 : Jerusalem - Masada - Jericho - Jerusalem
This morning we visit Massada and Jericho. Sound familiar? That would be Ned Flanders’ influence. Or the Bible’s. From Jericho, drive out to Bethlehem. We were gonna stay here but there was no room at the inn and someone had already shot-gunned the stable, so we’ll be going back to J-town for the night. But we will check out the Church of the Nativity and the Shepherds’ Fields while we’re in the hood.
Day 5 : Jerusalem - Yad Vashem - Jerusalem
Feel like havin’ a yak to the old man upstairs? Gethsemane is probably the place to do it. Get your holy on today, visiting the Western Wall, Via Dolorosa (Stations of the Cross) and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. In the arvo, we’ll stop in at the Yad Vashem (Israel's memorial to the Holocaust). Then it’s back to sunny Jerusalem.
Day 6 : Jerusalem - Nablus - Sabastya - Jerusalem
Does your bucket list include: ‘visit olive oil soap factory’? Phew! Today we’ll head out to Nablus and tick that one off. We’ll also visit the Turkish Hammam (Bath) and eat our collective weight in knafeh (mouth-watering, cheesy pastry deliciousness drenched in sweet, sweet syrup). Afterwards, visit Mount Gerizim, walk through ancient Roman ruins in Sabastya and see where John the Baptist was allegedly beheaded. Bunk down in J-town again tonight.
Day 7 : Jerusalem
Your trip ends in Jerusalem today. Say goodbye to all your new mates and don't forget to stalk their Facebook photos for pictures of yourself.
