Delta & Victoria - 2015-16

Whatever time you get in, we guarantee Jo’burg will be there to meet you at the airport. Botswana’s Khama Rhino Santuary specialises in rhinos, the Okavango Delta is great at hippos and Chobe National Park does a mean giraffe, ostrich, zebra, elephant combo.Tent etiquette 101Keep it neat – nothing worse than tripping over a backpack in the pitch dark and landing awkwardly on your sleeping friendZip it up every single time, even if you’re busting to pee during the night and will only be gone for 2 seconds – that’s exactly how long it takes a honey badger to get in.Share and share alike – if your tent-mate forgot to bring toothpaste, lend them yours or bear the brunt of their morning breath.

Day 1 : Johannesburg

Touch down in Joburg (as the locals like to call it) and head out to the Burma flea market for any last minute safari must-haves (t-shirts, hats, books). Grab a bite to eat while you're there. You'll find everything from Indian and Chinese to Turkish and South African food. Just don’t forget about the crew catch-up tonight.

Day 2 : Khama Rhino Sanctuary

Cross the border into Botswana and head towards the Khama Rhino Sanctuary. Around 30 rhinos roam around this community-based reserve. Don't forget your binoculars or you'll be getting them confused with big rocks.

Day 3 : Maun

Up early for a really long drive to Maun (pronounced ma-ooon) so pee before you get in the truck. We also offer a free massage service (ie. it's really bumpy). Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, so get excited.

Day 4 : Okavango Delta

Today you get to paddle the river. There's nothing more relaxing than feeling the African sun on your face as you lie back in a mokoro, eyes closed while your expert poler propels you through the calm waters... until a hippo grunts. Explore the lakes, lagoons and streams, camp on a remote island and wake for a sunrise hike.

Day 6 : Maun

Visit a rural village and then drive back to Maun. If you're a bit tuckered out from all the excitement, this is a good time for a nap.

Day 7 : Nata

Head towards Nata and take in the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. But don't take in too much – excess salt is bad for you, remember?

Day 8 : Chobe National Park

Traffic on the road to Kasane can be pretty intense. Giraffe, ostrich, zebra, and elephant, however, are all pretty courteous road users. Zip around Chobe in 4WDs, spotting heaps of wildlife and brushing up on your photography skills. End the day with a water safari – it’s a nice change to the truck.

Day 9 : Victoria Falls

Kick on to Zimbabwe and make the most of the whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, elephant safaris and some more game drives. They'll try and make you wear a yellow poncho at Vic Falls. Don't. This place is far too pretty to have you looking like an idiot in all your photographs. From here its goodbyes and well wishes, until next time.

Basic Details

Moderate physical activities are included and a good level of fitness is required. Culture shock rating Expect some culture shock.
