The Road to Delhi - 2016
Day 1 : Kathmandu
Embrace your inner hippy in Kathmandu, Nepal’s most famous patchouli-scented travel hub. Order a plate of fried momo, practice yoga, get a massage, marvel at the Bodhnath Stupa and use this time to reset your body clock. Just don’t get so Zen you forget about tonight’s crew catch-up.
Day 3 : Chitwan National Park
Take a bus up the seriously steep rim of the Kathmandu valley. Explore the jungle, search for Bengal tigers and play spot the Indian rhinoceros. It's basically The Jungle Bookcome to life. Bunk down in a super-cosy lodge for the night.
Day 5 : Lumbini
Kick on to laidback Lumbini and check out the beautiful Ashoka Pillars and Maya Devi Temple. Buddha lived here until he was 29. In that time he founded Buddhism. What have you done lately? Tonight you get to call a jungle camp home.
Day 6 : Varanasi
Today’s it’s goodbye Nepal and hellooooo India – the holy city of Varanasi, to be precise. Watch thousands of Hindu pilgrims cleanse their sins in the Ganges as you take a boat ride at sunrise. Share winding, crowded back alleys with huge, lumbering cows. And do a lot of yoga. We won't lie, it's pretty moving stuff.
Day 9 : Agra - Taj Mahal
Alight your overnight sleeper train in tiny Agra, home to the Taj. Boyfriends take note: Emperor Shah Jahan spent over 20 years building this shrine to his second wife. How long has it been since you've even bought anyone flowers? If you’ve got the energy head out to Agra Fort and stroll the palatial gardens with cheeky monkeys in tow. Classic India.
Day 10 : Tordi Garh
We stumbled across this remote village years ago and everyone loved it so much we put it on the itinerary. The kids will adore you, the locals will feed you and you'll go to sleep in a 16th century palace. What a day.
Day 11 : Jaipur
Push on to Jaipur and haggle to your heart's content in the bazaars and backstreets of the Pink City. Jaipur is famous for textiles (think table runners and made-to-measure suits), precious and semi-precious gems, and blue pottery. So buy something nice for your nanna.
Day 13 : Delhi
Your whizz-bang tour finishes up in Delhi. Watch one of the world's greatest shows unfold as people, traffic, cows and kids all work together in a kind of organised chaos. Grab a chai, put your feet up and let it all soak in.

Please note travelling during major festivals such as Holi and Diwali can, at times, cause disruption the the published itinerary. Please see the 'Safety' section for more details.
EU clients please see our safety page for important information regarding internal flights in Nepal.
ELEPHANT PERFORMANCES & ELEPHANT RIDING:While we respect each individual’s decisions while travelling, Geckos does not include elephant rides or unnatural performance activities on any itinerary, and we recommend you bypass these activities should they be offered to you during your stay. Professional wildlife conservation and animal welfare organisations, including World Animal Protection (formerly the World Society for Protection of Animals) advise that contrary to common belief, captive elephants remain wild animals and despite good intentions, unfortunately many venues are unable to provide the appropriate living conditions elephants require and this ultimately impacts their well-being. While there is some merit in the argument that the money that you pay for the activity goes towards keeping the elephants and their mahouts employed, we know that it also fuels demand for elephants to be captured in the wild or captive bred. We thank you for your support in improving the welfare of these majestic creatures. Further information is available here.
